- AVG Free Edition. A good basic antivirus that offers several additional tools, including LinkScanner, E-Mail Protection, Identity Protection and a system analyzer to scan for registry errors.
- Windows Defender. Microsoft's products to prevent, remove, and quarantine spyware in Microsoft Windows.
- Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Use this when, despite everything, you have an infestation. A simple and straightforward malware scanner that can detect and remove a variety of malicious programs.
- Spybot - Search & Destroy. Use this when, despite everything, you have an infestation. A spyware and adware removal program.
- SpywareBlaster. Started out as a malicious software blocker focused on ActiveX-based attacks. Now can block spyware delivered through Internet Explorer. This is pre-emptive and you don't have to wait till you have an infestation.
- Locknote from Steganos. An easy to use way of storing passwords etc securely.
